Southport, an island jutting five miles long and two miles wide into the Atlantic Ocean,is located in Midcoast Maine at the end of the Boothbay Peninsula, ninety minutes drive north of Portland. The Island is connected to the mainland by a swing bridge erected in the 1939.

Southport has its own government, churches, middle school, fire department, post office, historical society, yacht club, and general store, as well as inns, seasonal restaurants, a campground, boat yards, lighthouses, lobster pounds, wharves, marina, and library. Today's year round populace is made up of lobstermen hauling out of several harbors, boat builders, artists, home based entrepreneurs, small business persons, retirees and their families. In the summer, the population swells by many summer people, and business employees. The Island is rich in recorded history dating to the mid-1600s, and is blessed with incomparable natural beauty.
